Club Smart

Sports clubs are at the heart of community sport. Many clubs are run by volunteers who willingly give up their time to enable other members of their community to enjoy the benefits of their sport.

The aim of the Club Smart programme is to create and deliver a comprehensive programme for club development in the Manukau region. Through this, we hope to recognise good practice, improve the relationship with our clubs and to encourage clubs to develop, increasing their capability and their capacity.

Club Smart will

• Provide an in-depth club support programme for 45-60 sports clubs in Manukau. Focus will be on various areas of governance (e.g., coach development, member recruitment, volunteer recognition, school-club relationships, etc.)

• Provide three Club Development Officers (CDO) employed through Counties Manukau Sport. Based in Manurewa, Otara/East Tamaki, Mangere/Papatoetoe, the CDO’s with work with 15-20 sports clubs each over a 12-24 months period. Sports clubs sign a Club Smart agreement, complete a health check, then write and complete an action plan.

• Offer a number of resources to support the programme including online A-Z Club Manual, workshops, monthly e-newsletter (Club Broadcast) etc.

• Developing competition opportunities for all levels and ability
